2016 Audi R8 Redesign

The latest spy shots of the second-generation Audi R8, which is expected to launch in early 2015 as a 2016 model. It will be a sibling of the Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4 and an evolution of the current R8’s ultra-capable, mid-engine platform. The R8 will keep a wheelbase that is slightly longer than the Huracán’s, emphasizing its capabilities as a long-distance cruiser. The next R8 will evolve the current model’s design language, with a hexagonal grille and more-angular headlamps and taillamps. That angularity adds a dollop of aggressiveness, intended to outshout the competition (including the VW Group’s own Porsche 911). Significantly, Audi will offer a fully electric version: The R8 e-tron is forecasted to have a range of a whopping 280 miles. Another Spyder is coming as well.

It’s always difficult for a carmaker to join the supercar club, but Audi had a bona fide hit with the first-generation R8. Audi had a solid reputation as a luxury carmaker when the R8 first launched in 2008, but making the jump to supercars still seemed like quite a stretch. Yet, the outgoing model is among the most well-regarded cars of its type.

As good as it is, though, the R8 is definitely due for replacement. All of its competitors are much younger, so the second-generation 2016 R8 set to arrive next year will come at the appropriate time.

Halo car R8 from German manufacturer Audi is preparing new generation vehicle for 2016. Second generation of R8 will start with second decade of producing this sport car. Company is focusing on precision and drivability for this vehicle to maintain their supercar reputation. Also, they need constant improvement if they want to stay in top class. One of the many concerns are price and eco-responsibility, but company will have enough time to offer best options.

2016 Audi R8 Spy Shots

The spy shots confirm Audi is taking an evolutionary approach with the styling of its new R8. The shots also reveal that Audi’s horizontal themes first shown on the 2016 TT will feature on the 2016 R8. Wider and flatter lights are fitted at both ends and are joined by a more rigid hexagonal grille up front and rectangular exhaust tips at the rear. We can also see the car is getting a massive diffuser tucked into the rear bumper, and the R8’s signature side blades are still present.

2016 Audi R8 Release Date

At last month’s Los Angeles Auto Show, Audi technical boss Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg told Auto Express that engineers were on their way to developing a production R8 e-tron with 280 miles of range, as well as a plug-in hybrid version.

2016 Audi R8 Redesign

Launched in 2006, it was continuation of  Quattro, but since then R8 has evolutioned and new model will be refreshed and restyled. However, design hasn’t changed in general, but we will have impression that we look at brand new car. Now, 2016 Audi R8 will be modern, aggressive sporty look vehicle, with more angular appearance. Interior will be also changed, as well as engine lineup which is being prepared for 2016 R8.

2016 Audi R8 Changes

The layout will be a little more exotic. Side sleepers will get a new bit more aggressive look. Significant changes will be redesigned bumper, tail lights and headlights. Most vehicles will be made of aluminum, which affects the weight reduction and better aerodynamics. The interior will feature great comfort and convenience. Cargo quarters will be reduced. What is worth mentioning is the MMI navigation with Bluetooth. When it comes to safety airbags will be available to all parties and manufactured to the highest possible standards. There are also systems for traction and stability control as an electronic brake enough to participate in safety.

2016 Audi R8 Specs

The new R8 will continue to share its platform with the next-gen Lamborghini Gallardo, but Audi will focus on making it lighter and more powerful. Also, while remaining faithful to its roots, the next R8 will adopt a radical new look with lots of design elements inspired by the R8 E-tron concept car, including the single-frame grille and the matrix-beam LED lights.

Audi will also install many new elements made in carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP), most likely the bonnet and roof. These new elements, combined with the new Multimaterial Spaceframe body used in the R8 e-tron, will make the next R8 lighter than the current model.

Although official details remain scarce, the next R8 is expected to ride on the same platform as the Lamborghini Huracan. That architecture shift will allow Audi engineers to use more light-weight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber in the R8’s construction, which should net better performance and improved fuel economy.

Though difficult to discern from spy shots, the R8’s length should remain fairly close to today’s model. However, the Huracan is much wider than the current R8 so it’s possible that Audi’s supercar could add a bit of girth for its second generation. The R8’s styling will be an evolution of the first-generation model but, as our swirl-free shots reveal, the 2017 version of the car will have a few more curves.

Interior will be pretty similar to new TT’s cabin. But, it will also feature some unique parts and accents. However, engineers are doing their best to maintain reputation of R8 as one of the best vehicle from Audi. But, competition is also busy with development, so 2016 Audi R8 will face supercars from other companies Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Gallardo, McLaren MP4-12C, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Nissan GT-R.

The current R8 has a very distinctive look made all the more recognizable by its appearance in the various Iron Man movies, and as an early concept in I, Robot. It doesn’t appear that Audi will drastically alter this successful design.

Judging by the recent remake of Audi’s other styles icon, the TT, it seems the brand’s design language is going through a stage of evolution rather than revolution. So expect the next R8 to have a strong resemblance to the first-generation model, but with enough changes to keep things interesting and fresh.

2016 Audi R8 Engine

The main engine will be a naturally aspirated, 5.2-liter V-10 with close to 600 horsepower, but Audi will continue to offer a naturally aspirated V-8 with around 450 horses. Both engines will be mated exclusively to a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic; the manual transmission, unfortunately, won’t be made available in the next-generation model. Audi will also offer the R8 e-tron with a powerful and torquey electric powertrain, which will drive all four wheels. Expect massive torque that will dwarf the naturally aspirated, gasoline-powered engines. Top speed will likely be limited to around 155 mph in order to preserve driving range.

Engine lineup for the 2016 Audi R8 is not prepared yet, but from leaked information, it is said that the car will be powered by twin-turbo V8 and a naturally aspirated V10. Also, some rumors tell that plug-in hybrid is possible for new R8. If that happens, e-tron nameplate will be back in market. There are also some more plans, such as diesel engine. However, there is still enough time to pick and develop excellent drivetrain for this supercar. Audi recently introduced S-tronic seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and it is believed that exactly this gearbox will distribute power to the wheels. However, another possibility is 6-speed manual transmission.

The current R8 is offered with 4.2-liter V8 and 5.2-liter V10 engines, and these are likely to return as well. Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive will be standard, but the R8 may no longer be offered with a manual transmission due to low take rates on the current stick shift.

Audi did plenty of powertrain experimentation with the outgoing model, and some of that is expected to pay off soon. The all-electric R8 e-tron spent years in development hell, but the battery-powered supercar may finally make it to showrooms as part of the second-generation R8 lineup.
